- Well, I know this isn't quite the ideal place to post this request, but I
- have been looking for a while, and haven't found anything better.
-
- I have a Gateway 2K 486DX2-66 Vesa machine that has worked reasonably
- well for quite a while. I recently changed out my hard disk to a 1.2G
- drive, which required that I upgrade the BIOS. Everything works fine,
- except......
-
- If I have my PC-MCIA drivers installed when I call up the Borland IDE for
- my C/C++ compiler, my computer decides it is time to reboot, and does it.
-
- I have been using this computer with these PC-MCIA drivers and this Turbo
- C V3.0 for quite a while with out these problems (prior to BIOS upgrade).
- I have gone through my system configuration with a fine tooth comb
- looking for possible conflicts in I/O addresses, Memory addresses, or
- Interrupts. I didn't find anything.
-
- Next, I got the idea that it might have to do with DOS protected mode and
- the DPMI stuff that Borland uses. I have re-installed Turbo C and run
- DPMIINST again, but my problem persists.
-
- I have scoured the CMOS settings looking for CACHE problems or other
- areas where the new BIOS could be causing this behavior, but no luck.
-
- Programs that use the PC-MCIA channel work fine and don't cause the
- system any problems. For example, the application I wrote in C and
- complied with this same Turbo compiler still runs fine, as long as I
- don't have to use IDE.
-
- Does anyone have any experience that might shed some light here?
-
- I have contacted Borland, Databook (PC-MCIA people), and Micro Firmware
- (the BIOS upgrade folks), but no luck.
-
- Please lend me some guideance. If you know of a better place for me to
- post this, let me know. I am quickly running out of ideas.
-
- Thanks in advance,
- Mike Martin
